A post written by Donald S. Kornfeld, MD, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, on detecting research misconduct is featured on the latest installment of Health Wonk Review, hosted by the Disease Management Care Blog (DMCB).
The August 15 feature, titled A Brainy Health Wonk Review, summarized recent posts from various health care blogs on research, the Affordable Care Act, and other insights. Jaan Sidorov, MD, the man behind DMCB’s “brains” summarized Kornfeld’s post detailing the causes of the “falsification, fabrication and plagiarism that comprises research misconduct”.
“Causes include the fear of failure, perfectionism, ethical lapses, grandiosity and psychopathy. Dr. Kornfield reviews potential fixes, including training courses, better mentorship with monitoring and protections for whistleblowers.”
